If it feels good do it!
Young people are egotistical, selfish and ignorant. It has nothing to do with modern culture or the generation of youth we currently observe being total wimps. It's a symptom of a naive mentality that drives the youth of today. The same one that made us appear stupid and empathetic in our generation,.
As I mature and hopefully gain wisdom and insight, I view modern culture and art as weak and unoriginal. Few rational people would disagree with that. If you disagree with that notion, all you need to do is listen to modern music or visit a cinema, or watch most of the regurgitated programming on television. Originality and thinking outside of the box is such a foreign concept currently that we have become jaded and view any new release of music or films as total crap. Is it? Can we learn anything of value from what is occurring within the younger circles? Maybe.
Have we stopped playing?
One lesson we could learn is to never stop playing, don't cease to be silly. When we were younger, we did stupid crap, we embarrassed ourselves, and we shamed our parents. We also had fun doing it. We said what the hell we wanted to, listened to lame music, watched cheesy movies, laughed at offensive humor and IT WAS GREAT! Sometimes, in those moments we even had original thoughts.Creativity can flourish while doing what feels good. Some of our best thinking comes from speaking our mind, spewing foul language and just rolling with the punches,. When we act without fear, speak without considering the consequences and enjoy the moment, we think freely. Someone once said that we don't don't stop playing when we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.
I am NOT suggesting that we toss our morals out the window and do immature things. Sometimes though, it can give you a new type of vision. If we toss out things that prevent us from broader horizons we feel a liberation that only a young person can relate to.
Activities:
So what do we do? If a normally uptight member of society starts spouting foul language, smoking pot and rocking out to Poison or AC/DC it would likely raise eyebrows and possibly cause an intervention. An enlightening change of pace will create a sense of freedom that will shock you and could refresh your spirit. The risk is low, but the payout has a potential to give you new eyes. A few suggestions:Clear your weekend calendar and rent some movies. If you're married or in a committed relationship it might just ignite a flame and renew emotions and passion deep within. Never underestimate the seductive power of laughter.
